Vintage Design
This double foldable seat from the early 20th century features wooden elements made of bent plywood, likely hardwood such as birch. The wooden elements have been cleaned and refinished with oil and wax, giving it a refreshed look. The structure is constructed of cast iron, maintained in excellent condition, making it an ideal fit for industrial-style interiors, features mounting holes which can be used if you would like to screw the seats to the floor. The seats have most probably been used at the Columbia University Library. The additional detail of finding students’ initials and names engraved on the seats adds a personal and historical touch to these already intriguing pieces. This aspect not only adds to the uniqueness of the seats but also offers a glimpse into the lives of those who once sat on them, making them even more special and memorable.
The foldable design of the seat adds practicality, making it a versatile piece of furniture suitable for entryways or compact dining spaces.
