Rare and collectible Maison Margiela Artisanal Extended Jacket from Spring/Summer 2010. A lightweight crisp wool or wool blend is used for this amazing blazer with extended shoulders and lapels. There is an interior strap system at shoulders which creates an artificial shoulder line several inches above the natural shoulder. In addition, the right side of the jacket has been extended and designed to be worn pleated/crushed under a belt. The additional stiffened fabric creates folds and drama which heightens the already exaggerated silhouette.
Sleeves are attached only at the front of armscye and are left open at back likely to aid movement so the side view is completely open.
This is a team Margiela creation as Martin Margiela has just retired from the house just prior to this collection, it is likely created under the creative direction of Matthew Blaszy (of Bottega Veneta) as he was in charge of the Margiela studios during that period.
Essentially “Maison Margiela” in subverting a classic tailored jacket and creating an updated definition for a new “Power” suit.
