Shop counter in Natural Pine, with cut front corner top. This top is wider on the left than it is on the right. It is supported at the front and on one of its sides by openwork brackets cut in coils.
The fronts of this piece of furniture are composed of flat panels, sometimes assembled in one direction, sometimes in the other. They are underlined by Doucine strips forming frames. The front uprights are cut and moulded. The whole rests on a wide plinth.
The back of this counter is made up of two drawers, assembled with dovetails and distributed laterally. They are equipped with a lock in working order and their respective keys, all original. This space, initially reserved for the retailer, is also furnished with a fixed shelf, with a maximum depth of 26 cm.
It should be noted that this counter is also provided with a floor, characteristic of the Métiers furniture, which allowed the shopkeeper to preserve his feet from the cold of the ground. The natural wear and tear of this platform in the centre is a testimony to the authenticity and life of this property.
It should also be noted that the height of this Counter, as well as the large overhang of its top on the ”front” part, offered the possibility for ”potential customers” to sit down. They could thus comfortably study the products on display, exchange and finalize their transactions.
To conclude, we would like to underline the asymmetry and the double function of this Merchant Counter, which can be used as a display and/or cashier’s counter.
