Vintage Design
This delightful antique wooden chest boasts its original lacquer and paintings on the front, depicting Chinese figures within a red background. The main character in the central circle essentially means ‘thousands of tons of gold’ and the characters at either side talk of trading all of the world and bringing in money from everywhere.
A Chinese merchant will have used this chest during his travels, carrying his possessions throughout the Shanxi region during the 19th century.
The lid and side panels are supported with old brass braces, matching the original brass clasp on the front.
Use today as a great side table in a living area or great for storing bed linen and clothes.
